About
Us & Testimonials
 |
My
name is June Backmeier. I created Dolphin Swim School about
seven years ago and since then we have gone from strength to strength.
I love
to teach swimming and my teaching team and I are committed to teaching
children in a happy and relaxed atmosphere.
Classes
are taught in ability groups, not in age groups.
|
We offer:
 |
Reception/beginner
classes for non swimmers which are taught through play as well
as some structured lesson, building confidence. Play is also encouraged
at the end of the lesson. These classes have no more than seven pupils
and are taught with a teacher in the water.
|
 |
Improver
classes are for those able to swim but who need help with their
strokes. There is some play but mostly structured lessons. Play is
also encouraged at the end of the lesson.
|
 |
Stroke
technique sessions are for those who have mastered the strokes
but need more technical information. These are structured lessons
with the opportunity to play at the end of the session.
|
 |
Lane
teaching and coaching involves moving into deep water safely,
developing strokes, building stamina, diving, turns and other skills.
Lane teaching and coaching is only offered to those children previously
having lessons with Dolphin Swim School.
|
All classes
are taught various water skills and Progression Certificates are awarded
throughout all the classes. Parents are welcome on the pool side to watch
their children's progress. Our teaching terms correspond with school terms
and fees are payable each half term.
We aim to
teach children to swim - building confidence through enjoying the water
safely. This is achieved by teaching:-
 |
water
appreciation |
 |
stroke
improvement |
 |
water
skills |
 |
water
proficiency |
 |
stroke
technique |
Children
may enrol at any age and will be invited to swim as soon as they are confident
and do not need to be held - or at the age of three - whichever is sooner.
All reception,
improver and stroke technique classes are held at Greyfriars School Pool,
off London Road, King's Lynn, PE30 5PY.
Myself and
all teachers are ASA qualified and are CRB checked.
Testimonials
Below are
some of our 2010 testimonials and recommendations:-

"The
atmosphere is always relaxed and happy. The teaching is very personal
and hands on. I personally prefer my daughter to be taught by someone
who is in the pool with her. I love the way that every small achievement
is recognised and praised, building up the child's confidence with
each small step they make. I also love the fact that the children
are encouraged to help each other learn, so that when one child
achieves a goal, they are encouraged to show and help the others.
The teacher has a lovely, gentle, patient approach with all the
children in the group. The results speak for themselves.
Kindest regards and thanks."

"When
my son first started swimming classes with 'Dolphin Swim School'
he was terrified of water on his face. I was pleased to find that
the instructor was very understanding and with gentle persuasion
he gradually got used to the water. Now he puts his head in the
water all the time. This has only been achieved by the kind and
encouraging approach that this swimming school promotes. I
can thoroughly recommend 'Dolphin Swim School' to anyone.
All
the swimming instructor has a similar approach to teaching. They
teach to your child's ability and level, with small class sizes,
constant encouragement, discipline where needed, but never forceful
and a very friendly attitude."

"My
daughter started with the Dolphin Swim School 4 weeks ago. She has
never liked the water and would scream and cry whenever I took her
swimming, it really wasn't a pleasant experience. The last time I
took her swimming at the local pool, she slipped on the floor and
cracked her head open, although she was ok, she refused to go again.
As she was starting school and I knew she was going to have to do
swimming lessons, I knew I had to get her into the pool and get her
confidence up again. I had heard of the Dolphin swim school and as
it was a Greyfriars school (her school) I decided to enrol her.
Her
first lesson, she spent on the bench in her swimming costume, crying
on the side, shaking in fear, until the last 5 minutes, when the
instructor took her in, she felt relieved that the pool was small
and she could touch the bottom and although she was still uncertain,
stopped crying and enjoyed the pool for the first time. The next
week, she went in and with a lot of encouragement from the teacher
spent the whole session in the pool and even went onto her back,
with support. Each week she is gaining confidence and is enjoying
the water.
As
a parent, I would recommend "Dolphin Swim School" to others,
the teachers are great with the children and make them feel at ease,
especially being in the pool with them."

"We
moved to Dolphin swim school approx 5 years ago, and haven't looked
back. Since having lessons with June and her fantastic team my children
have made excellent progress. Both boys are now swimming lengths
at the local swimming pool where June hires lanes for her lessons,
in addition to the technique improvement they are also being taught
butterfly and diving skills, which I think is great considering
they are only 9 and 7. My daughter loves having her lessons and
has made a special bond with one of the instructors.
In
a happy and fun environment, Dolphin swim school has helped my children
to develop their swimming skills and confidence. In the words of
my children they said the lessons were fantastic, brilliant and
fun. I have and will continue to recommend this swimming school."

"My
children and I have nothing but praise for June. Going to Dolphin
Swim Club has taught them to swim very well and they always looked
forward to their lessons. Just my youngest attends now and recently
June encouraged him to jump in the deep end at St. James', something
I had been trying to achieve for the last 6 months took June just
10 minutes! I would highly recommend Dolphins and I'm very grateful
that they are so confident in the water, well done June and your
helpers at Dolphin Swim School."

"My
children started swimming lessons with the Dolphin Swim School when
they were 6 and 4 years old. They were immediately tested to see
their abilities and moved into the correct group. They have both
love going to their lessons and have built up a great relationship
with each teacher who has encouraged and developed their technique.
June and her team of helpers make swimming fun which is the best
way to learn. Highly recommended."

"We
can thoroughly recommend Dolphin Swim School. One of the most attractive
things about the school is that the teachers are in the pool with
the children in the early stages of their learning. This gives the
children confidence to try new things.
Our
eldest daughter started lessons when she was 3 years old and within
only a matter of months she was swimming confidently without her
armbands. Now at nearly 6 years old she has recently progressed
to the lane training sessions at St James Swimming Pool. Our youngest
daughter couldn't wait to start lessons after seeing how much her
sister enjoyed it. She has now been swimming for a year and also
loves the water and is swimming without armbands. We are extremely
proud of both of their achievements and know it wouldn't have been
possible without the expertise and encouragement they have recieved
during their lessons.
We
wanted to give our children the opportunity to swim at an early
age and seeing the progress they have made means lessons with Dolphin
Swim School are worth every penny spent!"

"I
enjoy swimming because it's fun to learn and I've learnt to swim
very quickly. June is very kind and helpful to me. She always checks
to see if I'm ok."
Holly M Age 7
"Swimming with Dolphins is great. I have lots of fun when I
do the lessons. June is nice and kind."
Ben M Age 10
"I am always highly recommending Dolphins to friends. Both
my children started swimming with armbands and with the help and
support of the instructors, they very quickly gained the confidence
to swim without. Both my children have rapidly progressed and moved
up through and into higher ability lessons. A wide variety of days
and times are available for lessons making these accessible and
convenient. June has always considered both of these when arranging
lesson times for my children, particularly at the time when both
were swimming at different levels. We are always greeted with a
friendly and helpful June. Kind, patient and aware of childrens
needs."
